Joining the Boycott

Velvet is a good friend. In the past she’s helped me paint my house, loaned me deviant porn (that she thinks she’s getting back), and told me when I was wearing clothes that were too close to the euro/gay line. So I won’t be attending the Happy Hour. Getting back at people by posting their real names and phone numbers on a website is not cool. So I won’t go to a Happy Hour with people who think that’s okay. And if you are thinking of going to a Happy Hour and revealing your identity to people who are so careless about safeguarding it, then lots of luck to you.

And I have you to thank for bringing Velvet into my life, Mr. H.I. Ninja. If it wasn't for a post on the Ninja last summer, I'd possible have never met Velvet.

As I commented elsewhere today, posting her personal info is more than an insult -- it's an attack on her safety. Not funny.

Which HH is this? The one that's this week, I assume?

That's awful about posting her personal info. Very not cool.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. You can keep the porn for this.

I read your blog from the Houseblogs.net site and your links don't show up on the sidebar. Today I went to your homepage and found the investing link. I don't have time to study it today, but saved it to favorites. I can't wait to spend some time at that site. I really love your houseblog.

circumlocutor: You're welcome.

LJ: yes, it's this friday, I believe. I'll be in a salsa club at that time.

Velvet: are you sure about that? You've got an autographed Brianna DVD. That's like, worth more than an original copy of the Declaration of Independence.

suicide_blond: see...never leave town.

Kathy: thanks. The investing site has no humor though. Just good ideas.

Even if I had planned on going, I certainly wouldn't now. Viva la resistance!

I'm pro-Velvet all the way, (and I vote), and I should also say I've been to a couple of happy hours with no desire to do that again (generation gap) ... but gosh, a happy hour boycott? How sad.

What has turned DC blogging community so toxic?

Anonymous said...

Do you see why I love Reya? LOVE HER!!! Reya supported me in an unbelievable way when I spoke out against hypocrisy the last time? Remember? Cough cough.

HoneyKBee added to lover's list also!

Ninja, for this act, I would let you keep that autographed Briann DVD. Because that is the kind of friend I am!

HomeImprovementNinja said...

honeykbee: well, just pretend that you were going, so you get credit for not.

Reya: yes, it's sad, but I draw the line at outting people. It's all fun and games until someone gets fired.

Velvet: wow. I know how much that p0rn means to you!

I never go to happy hours, anyway, so no big loss.

But, sheesh! I don't understand the elementary-schoolishness of these people.

This is the best news I've heard all day. I think you know I've always thought you were lame so I can't tell you how pleased I am to know that you are not coming. But you know who's happier? the girls who HATE your close talking. Dude, respect the personal space, and please come up with a better way to pick up girls than using salsa dancing. My book is coming out soon so it will have a lot of ideas for you to get laid.

Velvet seems like a really nice girl (and she gave me some kickass real estate advice too :) so she has my support for whatever that's worth.

Anonymous said...

Well if that didn't just prove the entire point Roosh, I'm not sure what else you could have done. Maybe send out evites to just the preferred people so you can exclude the ones you hoped to pass off to the other HH's?

Anonymous said...

And Roosh tries to claim his parties are inclusive? Puh-leaze. I wish he'd show this side (the real Roosh) of himself on everyone's blog so that no one will be fooled by him. I wonder what he says about everyone who comes to his parties.

As said before, he, VK, and Kathryn just sit, point and laugh at everyone.

Oh dear. I'm sorry Velvet! You're a doll!

Nice of you to show up long enough to expose your true colors though.

Just for the record: I am against outing people, against all kinds of cruel behavior. I'm sad that what seemed like such a happy community is poison now. Roosh? Do you want people to hate you? I don't understand.

Maybe this is a place I can get a rational answer to something that's been bothering me about this whole thing:

IF we agree that posting personal information is wrong, period, and anyone who does it should be shunned, and

IF this whole boycott thing is really, as Velvet has said, a matter of choosing not to be around a particular person (or persons) of whom she disapproves personally based on their actions, especially the above,

THEN why is BHR being allowed to hijack this thing, blow it up and play conductor on the Immaturity Train? This is someone who has done exactly the objectionable things being criticized, and yet no one seems to mind. Jump to condemn VK/Roosh, sure, but it's okay if BHR does it because he also likes to insult VK/Roosh?

What gives?

To anonymous - no one is condoning what Rob did, are they? But Rob doesn't host "come one come all" happy hours, inviting everyone and pretending to be a social butterfly while secretly making snide comments about blogger's weight and looks. Rob doesn't have events where he collects information and then uses it against people. Why? Because everyone already knows he can't be trusted. If Rob was hosting Happy Hours, no one would go.

But in this scenario, you have VK hosting a Happy Hour and he's putting people's information and some pretty vicious accusations on his website. How does that make for a standup host?

Rob is a side dish in an already complete meal. Stop paying attention to him as the Conductor of the immaturity train. It is your own fault for paying attention to him to begin with. If slowly bloggers started boycotting without the pomp and circumstance from BHR and friends, nothing would be different. Did you really learn anything new from Rob? Does anyone really learn anything new from Rob?

This now begs a question I have for you. If Rob is the Immaturity Train Conductor why do you read him?

Anonymous said...

to other anonymous-

With regards to Rob, it depends on how you define what 'condoning' is. Where did this boycott banner come from? I would submit that if the banner came from Rob's site, and you're using it, that's tacit approval of his behavior. If you didn't approve, you'd suggest he keep out of it rather than taking what he offers. To say nothing of the fact that BBTY is promoting Rob's promotion, and it is my understanding that Velvet is involved with/contributing to BBTY. So to suggest that there isn't some cooperation there strikes me as dishonest. Personally, I'd never have known about it but for that. And Rob spends most of his time making snide comments about people's appearance, weight, etc (and clearly spends no less time looking for dirt than you seem to suggest VK/Roosh do). Maybe he's a side dish, but he's being presented on the plate with your meal. It's not unrelated.

Look, I think VK was wrong. I've met Velvet and enjoyed speaking to her. I don't think she or anyone else deserves to be outed. I just find it strange that you want to pretend that VK acted in a vacuum, like this sort of thing isn't done, and done by some of the people involved in trying to shout him down. Remember, BBTY branded INPY a 'liar' based on conjecture, and because she thought it would be fun. That's not vicious? It's certainly mean-spirited, and it's a short step from one to the other.

Maybe I've paid too much attention to what's been going on at BHR's, but it's not by accident that he's involved in this, either. That's the part that makes this less compelling for me. You don't claim him, but you're not doing anything to discourage him. If you want to do the right thing, then do it. Be consistent. The moral high ground just seems shaky otherwise.

But regardless, I do appreciate the comment. I was looking for reasonable and I got it. So thanks for that.

Bro chill out I was just giving you some dating advice. Judging by the number of girls I have seen with my own eyes reject your advances, I thought i could help you branch out with new techniques. But never mind I take back my help. friday night is coming.. gotta get ready for that salsa party, though with that kind of negative attitude i dont think you will do very well.

i wont say this to your face? heh

So anonymous, if you and Rob vote for the same Presidential Candidate does that mean you are supporting his agenda too? Is this like a "we have to show solidarity and do the opposite of Rob at all times?"

rooshbag: Wow, you seem to be spending a lot of time on my site now that you're living in your dad's basement and don't have a real job or anything.

Like I said, I'll pass on the dating advice from you. I don't think I'd be interested in the type of girls who'd be interested in someone like you.

But since we're passing out dating advice, maybe I can return the favor: Brush your teeth. It's bad enough that you don't shave or shower regularly, but I've heard from a few girls that your breath is stronger than your come ons.

Anonymous said...

Wow. If you really think there's a parallel between this and voting for President, then you're either missing or ignoring the point.

If you go and put the Christian Coalition's campaign bumper sticker on your car, and in the course of your activities DIRECT PEOPLE TO THEIR WEBSITE, then I think it's safe to assume that you agree with them. Any reasonable person would draw that conclusion. It's not just some random coincidence that you happen to vote for the same candidate.

This is being discussed as a matter of principle. That's where my original question came from. If we are saying that outing people is wrong, period, then there is some expectation there, yes. As much as you think VK is wrong, you have a responsibility to criticize Rob the same way. Boycott his site, don't use HIS BANNER to voice your displeasure. If Velvet is involved in BBTY, then she can't, as a matter of principle, link to Rob on BBTY and then claim not to be on anyone's "team" on her site. It's disingenuous and dishonest. Again, that's if it's about the principle of the thing.

If what is being said is really, "I don't care if people get outed; I'm just pissed that MY information got put out there," then I suppose it's a totally different discussion. If that is the case, I don't think Velvet comes out of this looking much if any better than VK. Just admit you're being just as immature and junior-high as the rest of them, trying to turn people against them. Claiming that going or not going to a happy hour is a matter of "loyalty"? Basically saying that if you're friends with Velvet and KassyK, then you have to choose who you're "more" friends with? And if you choose wrong, you're a "backstabber"? How is one better than the other?

I go back to my point about consistency: if you're going to claim that someone else is wrong, don't you have a responsibility to do what's right?

HIN: sorry for crowding up your comments with this; say the word and I'll quit. Velvet's comments are turned off, so I couldn't ask her directly, and this seemed like a fair place.

And for what it's worth, "rooshbag" is hilarious.

Anonymous said...

What if Roosh and VK showed up at a blogger's house and did real-life damage -- and there is evidence of that, anonymous? Don't they deserve to be outed for that?

What if they tried to pin other actions they did on Kassy K? Why might they have done that?

Anonymous said...

Anon -
I lost track among all the anons of what you are asking. Just email me.

Enough of the anon crap. I'm no fan of Rooshbag, but if you're gonna accuse him of something, be man enough to put you're name on it, or shut the hell up.

Don't make me turn comment moderation on, bitchez!

and just for kicks - the boycott banner turned up on Best DC Blog, as far as I can tell. Not a Rob creation. There goes that argument, unless I'm wrong.

Anonymous said...

Carrie - that's what I thought too, to be honest. But someone pointed out that Rob may have created it first. I don't know. All I know is that the banner served my purpose and I don't give a fuck where it came from.

You're running out to a birthday party and you suddenly realize you forgot a cake. Your neighbor hands you a perfectly good cake. Are you not going to take it because your neighbor made it instead of you? That's the inane argument people are using with me. "But Rob made the banner....wah wah wah." Please people. Get lives. It served my purpose and like I said, I don't know where it came from but it didn't matter at the time. Still doesn't!

Anonymous said...

By the way, no "anons" have emailed me. Just what I figured!

Hey boy. You are a good person and have a strong bright heart and you get my applause for the brave powers you display. What they did to me at that happy hour was very hurtful and has made me not like people very much. They physically and mentally punished me because I am not thin, white, pretty, or straight. Strong and beautiful people like you need to continue changing the world with their special gifts. You are my courage boy. I love you boy.

Anonymous said...

Geesh, it looks like this post got hijacked! I was approached about putting up the banner, but I don't think I'm going to, because I don't think this is really any of my business...but, I do think that if "they" put up Velvet's information, "they" were out of line.

Now, touch gloves and keep fighting!

Anonymous said...

You think it's none of your business, Sugar? Wait until the publish YOUR information. Oh, they do have your information. If you ever visited one of their blogs from work, they do have your information. Do not fool yourself for a second. You are a black woman and in their eyes that is not a good thing. Sugar, this very much IS your business and when it happens to you, don't come crying to us.

Anonymous said...

I'd have to agree with the previous comment. Sugar likes to scream about injustices on her blog but she doesn't give a shit about justice if she's not involved. Sad.

Here’s a comment that Rooshbag put on my post and subsequently deleted. I found it in my email box. Because we’re such good friends (he did preface his assholish comments with a “dude” and a “bro”, right?), I’m reposting it here.

roosh has left a new comment on your post "Joining the Boycott ":

"you have VK hosting a Happy Hour and he's putting people's information and some pretty vicious accusations on his website. How does that make for a standup host?"

Seriously, shut up already. Until you get your full name published, your cell phone number, your job, your job numbers, and even your coworkers names, put up for everyone to see, with someone encouraging you to contact those numbers, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT PERSONAL INFORMATION IS. And velvet has joined the person who is king of doing all this!! But she's against personal information!! And so are you!! The kool-aid must be delicious!!! Dumb ass.

Firstable, for someone who doesn’t even want me to come to his happy hour, you sure use a lot of exclamation points. I count nine exclamation points, and only six sentences (and one sentence fragment…just because you put a period on it, doesn’t make it a sentence, sparky).

a common first name such as [Bigger B’s] is NOT personal information. Finding out that this blog is written by "Steve" is NOT outing someone. As for velvet, her personal information is nowhere to be found on VKs blog. Go look for yourself. So what's her reason for joining the boycott again?

For those of you wondering, Bigger B’s real first name and the type of job she does were posted on someone’s blog recently. And since Rooshbag thinks it’s horrible that someone posted his name, job and work numbers on a site, I don’t know why he’s encouraging others to go to a happy hour so they can give out damaging personal info about themselves that can be used against them by someone who develops a cyber grudge against them. And for the record, even though I think you’re a tool, I think posting your real name and phone number on a certain site was fcuked up and I said so to several people. I think KOB was right to remove his link from the DC Blogs feed and should do that to anyone who outs someone else.

Anyway, DUDE…or should I call you BRO? Well, in any event, Fratty, I don’t know why it matters if I support, oppose, or don’t make mention of the happy hour. Even if you’re the only one there, I’m sure you’ll still tell people how awesome it was; how many hot chicks were there; and how they all lined up to have acrobatic, deviant sex with you afterwards. I can’t wait to read about you telling us how many copies of your book you’re selling, but have still decided to stay in your Dad’s basement because you decided to live like a tortured writer. Sending copies of your book to a publisher, eh? HA!

First, I love Velvet's blog. I think she's an awesome person, although I haven't met her.

I guess there are two reasons why I'm up in the air about attending tonight's HH. First, Roosh and VK scare me on general principles and I'm concerned about people thinking they're cool.

Second, but no less important, it sounds like VK outed people. Is this true? Is there proof? I mean, I believe Velvet when she says it as she seems like an honest person, but can I see proof? Outing is bad news. I wouldn't like it.

Anonymous said...

Well, I haven't visited any of their blogs from work, and I haven't had internet at home in months, plus, there's only one person on this post who has my information....so, if it SHOULD get out, TRUST, I'll know how it did.
