No Cake for Hitler

Firstable, I don't know who names their kid "Adolf Hitler". It's hard enough making it through gradeschool without the kids finding some reason to pick on you, so you shouldn't make it easy. If this kid was born with a name like Ralph, I would feel sorry for him, but Adolf Hitler? Really? That's practically child abuse. I hope you can take a punch, kid, because you're in for a rough ride. You will not have fond memories of the playground...nuff said.

Now they are in the news because (I guess) they are upset that a store wouldn't sell them a cake that said Adolph Hitler on it. The only thing that makes this story funny instead of sad, is that the white trash parents of this kid are trying to convince the reporter that just because they named their kid Adolph Hitler, they aren't racists. Oh really? Is that why you wear a nazi soldier's WWII boots and named your other kid "JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell "? While you're at it, why don't you tell me about how I can make money by buying foreclosed homes with no money down?

Kudos to the Shop Rite for taking a stand and telling them they can take their business elsewhere.

And a big eff-you to WalMart, where the article says they ended up getting their cake.

No surprise there, though. That awesome empire of scum will of course take a stand by selling edited DVDs and refusing to sell books, movies and music they find offensive. And treating their employees about on par with Thai child laborers. But when it comes to catering to racist nut jobs, no problem.

I am surprising myself with this, but I think they should have made the cake. A horrible name and horrible parents, but not the kids fault.

I agree with Lemmonex.

I say they should have made the cake. I love Freedom of speech.

I swear to God, when I read that news report I thought of you. I knew you would blog it.

The parents need to be kicked in the teeth, repeatedly.

I disagree with Lemmonex. Shop Rite had every right to say no to the cake (btw the store did offer to supply a cake for the parents to decorate with the child's name).

The only reason for the cake to include the boy's full name was because his father wanted the attention.

Yes, the child is the innocent victim in this story. But the boy is NOT a victim of a company rightfully refusing to propagate hate speech, which was obviously the goal of Heath Campbell (the father). The boy is a victim of his father being an asshole. Period.

@Corey- but freedom of speech is exactly what gives Shop Rite the ability to say "f*ck you" to the nazi wannabes.

They are free to name their kids as painful reminders of an awful time. And Shop Rite is free to say "please go shop elsewhere because we would rather not do business with bigots."

Hate is NOT a protected class, and free speech should not be equated with never taking a stand. Sure, I will defend to the death someone's right to spout hate - but I sure as hell am not going to be a party to it.
