The world's worst driver

I spotted this car on Florida Avenue and 17th street. There were no other cars involved in the "incident".
Sometimes people back home in NYC think I'm kidding when I tell them how bad the drivers are in DC. When I tell them that it snows half an inch and the entire city shuts down (no, really!), and people here don't even know how to drive in the rain. (maybe you should stay in Arizona or New Mexico or wherever the hell was cursed by the universe with no rain, and leave DC to people who know how to use windshield wipers).
But I'm not exaggerating. The only thing worse than the drivers in DC is the police force...and the school system...and the taxes. Maybe I should move to Arlington...or Bethesda? Anyone want to buy a 1/2 completed ninja fortress? I'll throw in a cute dog for free!

For real? Move to Bethesda to get away from bad drivers? I bet if you took a closer look, that car would have VA or MD plates. There are no worse drivers than in the suburbs.

At first I thought the car was standing on end, but then I realized the picture needs to be rotated 90 degrees! You wondered just what happened to leave it in this position? And what must have happened to anyone inside when it happened? Shudder. I see lots of things in the VA suburbs, but nothing like this.

Given the position of the car and the relative lack of damage, I'd bet that it was on a flatbed towtruck, incorrectly secured, the truck hit a bump, and it flipped off backwards. Why the truck didn't stop to pick it up, I do not know.

you forgot to mention the cab drivers, those are even worse than any sort of suburban drivers (well, maybe soccer moms in minivans.... close call)

On Monday morning, I saw one to top this, believe it or not. A friend and I were riding our bikes in the early a.m. hours and encountered the aftermath of a nasty accident. The underside of a car was facing us at an odd angle. The top of the car was leaning up against a tree. One end of the car pointed to the sky. The other was about 4 feet off the ground.

Yes, the car was IN the tree. From the car's position and configuration of the area, our best guess was that it was going 100 mph or faster, hit the median, flipped end over end at least once, and landed in the tree. DAAAAMMMMNNNNN!!!!! That's some stunt driving! Too bad it wasn't a stunt man. No idea if there were any survivors.

BTW, I'm in Chicago, not DC.

Late on commenting, but I hate the drivers here too (and yes, have blogged about it... http://beachbumatheart.blogspot.com/2008/04/dc-idiotic-drivers-aka-my-traffic-pet.html)

Just sorry to tell you, that this is for the whole DC metro area -- not just DC. Here in Arlington people are just as idiotic.
