Comcast Sux

Well, my internet is still down, thanks to the incompetents at Comcast. They sent a repair guy to fix my cable modem, but since I failed to specify that I wanted someone who actually knew what they were doing, they sent me one that they probably hired from the parking lot of a liquor store. After about an hour of the guy playing around the computer and not knowing which end of it was up, he gave up. I don't know what kind of training they give these guys at Comcast University, but this guy didn't even know where the CD Rom drive was on my iMac. He actually asked if my computer had one (because he didn't see one). Since I didn't buy my iMac in 1985, of course it had one. And if he didn't know enough about Apple Macs to know if they even came with a CD Rom, I knew the task was doomed. So this guy called the office and scheduled a "lead tech with a laptop" to come the next day. I asked what would happen if that guy couldn't fix it. He assured me that a "lead tech with a laptop" could fix it. Then he went into a description of what it takes to be a lead tech with a laptop. Apparently it's the internet equivalent of overcoming the Shaolin 13 Chambers of Death. There is, apparently, only one level higher than a lead tech. I think it's a Shaolin Master Assassin, and it involves becomming part cyborg and having computer parts fused directly to your central nervous system, with a CPU in your brain and a USB Port in your rectum.

I think we need to change your ethernet cable.

That sounds like a lot of trouble to go through, but they probably make at least $2 an hour more than a head tech and they get their own parking spot.

The only problem with the lead tech with a laptop is that he didn't show. That's right, the Comcast guy never even bothered to show up. When I called Comcast to find out the status, the woman told me that they couldn't check on it because their computers were down. WHAT THE FVCK! I'm relying on these idiots to get my computer back on line when they can't even keep their own computers running. That's like hiring a dermatologist with severe acne or a bankrupt financial planner.

SO anyway, I' really pissed off at these morons. I'm gonna try to set up another appointment next week and if they screw me around again, I'm just cancelling my internet and cable altogether and I'll find something more productive to do with time, like helping blind kids or lepers, or maybe developing an addiction to prescription narcotics.

At least prescription narcotics are less addictive than the internet.

After dealing with Comcast for several years and getting sick of constant price increases I recently gave up and switched over to DSL. Went from $100 per month down to $35...and no complaints so far!

Whatever you do don't switch to RCN. They Suck (note the capitalised S).

I think you're on the right track. The only time I can ever get anything out of Comcast is when I threaten to cancel my service.

You should get $25 off your next bill anytime a tech is late or doesn't show, in case you didn't know.

Not that I would know this from my own hassles with Comcast, though. I will say, I've had better luck with them than with Cox...

Good God! Why didn't they send "the lead tech with a laptop" the first time around?

We got Comcast about 2 1/2 years ago and it was winter, so they couldn't bury the cable. They still haven't. In spite of the fact that we have called numerous times.

Ahhh good luck!! I've been dealing with the same crap from Direct TV...I just got my service back yesterday after almost a week of NO service bc of the storms. AH. Good luck!!

I just got DSL. Sure, it took weeks to get it, but now that it works? It's fabulous!

I also have Comcast for cable (no other option in our town) and internet. I signed up in February and just received my $75 in rebates last week. The price was cheaper than the DSL I was paying for, but honestly I don't see a difference so when my trial price ends, I'm flipping.

When I threw out my ex a few years ago, the cable was in his name. You would think we were trying to sort through custody of a child, the hoops we had to go through to transfer to my name was unbelievable. And everytime I called I received a different answer. Finally, after an appointment was made for someone to "come out" I really questioned why anyone would need to come into my house to update billing, so I called back. They cancelled the appointment stating that I was right (yippee) no one needed to come in. Got home from work and took a nap on the couch. The doorbell rings at 8 pm and there's the cable guy!! He felt bad for being so late he just gave me access to every possible cable channel. Huh? It's not stealing if they give it to you, right?? Yeah, it was cool for a while until they moved everything to digital and all I have left now is CMT and the gamers channel.

Oh jebus. I just got Comcast internet at home! I did the self installation and have my own modem and everything ended up working out okay...

dara: yeah, but the internet won't land you in jail. Unless you're featured in one of those Dateline investigations.

rob: I may switch to DSL if they can't get it going again. Still, I'd miss the speed in cable.

e: noted. I had Starpower before, they weren't so bad.

reid: It won't be a threat. I don't care about digital cable, I just want my internet.

buttercup, I'm definieltey calling to bitch when I get back. I've been without internet for a week (and still paying for it) and their people didn't show up or at least call. Assholes!

shelli, they are terrible. If I could get internet and tv from a satellite, I'd switch.

kassyk: we're like battered women hoping to get our husbands to take us to the hospital after they sober up.

MA: I may be joining you soon.

Kim: Their incompetence amazes me. I'm hoping that competition will whip them into shape, but I don't see it yet.

Liberal Banana: I may have to do something myself. I suck at computers, but at least I know where the CD Rom is on a Mac.

Comcast is the shittiest ISP ever! I use to actually work for them. Big Mistake. The people you call for internet tech support are stupid people hired off the street with no education. Most calls are transfered to call centers mostly based in Cananda, which doesn't even have comcast. They have no information on why your internet is no working, most of the time people will tell you your in a network outage, which is basically bullshit. They are just sick of their job. Most Techs that are scheduled to come out to your house are hired through a contractor which they know nothing about Comcast internet. Comcast is slowly going bankrupt. Roadrunner just bought half of comcast customers.Comcast just sucks. luckly I don't have them. Good luck with anyone that does!!

As one of those lead techs, I have to say it's usually people who say "everything is out" to get someone out faster that get a tech who doesn't do the computer side. And usually computer issues are the customers fault. I'm constantly amazed at the people who own computers who don't do ANYTHING to fix it themselves. We are not Geek Squad. But, I suppose it's easier to blame the big company than admit you screwed it up in the first place. I get people like you every day who mess up their system and then blame their ISP for a hardware/software issue that we have nothing to do with. I try to be a nice guy and fix it anyway. If I charged for what you people screwed up (which I could) it would be a lot more than what your bill is evrey month. Next time try taking the initiative and fix your own garbage.

hey lead tech are you really a tech lol. I don't think comcast even knows what a genuin tech is.
I have checked cables and modem myself my computer works fine. My wirless works but there is no internet for a week and I'm not the only one in this area its been going on off and on for months. Comcast is loosing customers fast around here. I love the speed when and if I can get a connection but damn what do you have to do to get service going. YES COMCAST SUX oh and I checked myself bcause no tech showed up and I usually fix the problems of my friends computer and yes I have training.

I recently switched from AT&T dsl 6meg 768 to Comcast 6 meg down and 768 up also went with digital phone and cable.

On the weekends I play several games online and play on servers located in the Midwest US, and right off I noticed extremely high ping times.
My ping times on these servers with the dsl was in the low 30-40 range.
But with Comcast it is in the low 80-90 range, So I decided to contact Comcast customer support.
My first call to them resulted in a lady telling me that my modem was not in sink with comcast so she said she reset it and I should power cycle the modem.

This of course did no good so I contacted them again and was connected with another person that had not ideal what I was talking about.
