Wow, Gasoline Really IS Expensive

On Friday I realized how expensive gas has really become. After the gym, my friend Uncle Rico and I were having beers at my place before we went out. When we went to our vehicles afterwards, Uncle Rico's truck smelled like a gas station. He has a pickup truck that's pretty high off the ground. When we looked underneath it, we saw that someone had cut his fuel line and stolen his gas!

Now this sucks on many levels. If they had siphoned the gas from his tank by unscrewing his gas cap, then he would be out $50 for the gas, but it wouldn't be a big deal. Since they cut his fuel line, he was out of gas and the truck wasn't going anywhere until he got a mechanic to come out to my neighborhood to fix it. And mechanics don't like going to work on a Saturday (join the club!), especially if they have to go to a neighborhood where people steal gas.

I like my neighborhood (kinda), but no one steals gas in Bethesda. So you can make fun of the burbs all you want, but at least you don't have to worry about your gas being stolen, and you don't have to buy your chinese takeout from behind bulletproof glass.

Bummer about Uncle Rico's truck. We had a dealership here that was vandalized by poking holes in the gas tanks of huge trucks. The vandals only got about a gallon of gas per vehicle as that's all the dealership keeps in them on the lot! So, $25,000 worth of damage for less than $100 worth of gas ...

I don't drive, so have to depend on the kindness of friends to cart me around. I always remember to pitch in; mama taught me manners. Needless to say, I was a bit astonished when my portion of gas for a recent road trip was $40...and there were four people in the car. EEK.

My secret dream has always been to live in the city with no car, but living in the suburbs certainly has a few advantages. Unfortunately it is getting significantly more expensive to venture downtown these days.

guess there is ONE advantage in the city to having only 3 inches of clearance!

Holy cow. Sorry for him. That really, really sucks. I've been parking my car in the burbs, and nothing terrible has happened since I started doing that. As compared to DC and a stolen wheel, a drive by sideswipe that ruined two doors, a dented hood - dented because the person climbed on it to smash my windshield with a rock for fun...

NV: people suck, don't they?

Lemmonex: you shouldn't have to pay. Chicks with good racks should ride for free.

cyndy: the grass is always greener.

suicide_blond : that's what SHE said! HA!

Lisa: yeah, I know living in the city is supposed to be exciting, but I can live without THAT kind of excitement.

Sorry - I had stolen gas from another vehicle, and then felt guilty about it.

So I stole your gas to refill the other person's tank.

Whoever took that gas is ballsy. I would never mess with the stuff of anyone named Uncle Rico.
